February 2004

February first with the temp minus 14, a glorious sun, clear skies, and most importantly, no wind.  While most of you watched the super bowl and I was at work, Patty went with Cathy, Frank and Aucha-two local friends, and Frank's uncle to a camp across Kotzebue sound.

There are many camps out in the "bush" and many folks choose to live this life year round. Almost everything including water is hauled here from town, either with snowmachines in the winter, or boats in the summer.

Kotzebue, with it's 3000 inhabitants is considered, "The Big City".

It has been relatively quiet for the last week or so which is a good thing.  The days are longer and a little warmer.  Patty and I have been kind of taking it easy the last couple of weeks, so the camera has been on vacation.  However Cathy still goes out to a camp on the weekends, and this weekend she took the camera.  Here are some more pictures of life outside, "the big city".

Today, Saturday February 21st, was a bit warmer with the temps starting around minus 8 then going up to about 4 above zero.  There were some snowmachine races on the back bay and we went out to see them.  We took the snowmachine out the back of town a ways and it was downright comfortable.
