March 2004

We have been out of town for much of the first part of March and we took it easy this weekend.  I did manage a few shots though of which these are a sample.

Well, I was scheduled to go to Anchorage last week and the village of Selawik this week.  Neither happened as all the flights into Anchorage were booked by the folks going to Nome for the finish of the Iditarod, and all flights to the villages were canceled early in the week due to ice fog.  Patty was scheduled to go to Point Hope again and of course she had clear weather.  Here are some pictures taken by her on March 25th.

We awoke Saturday March 27 with the temp minus 7, but also with the sun shining on this beautiful windless day. Cathy kept after us to ride to camp with her and Aucha until we gave in.  After fumbling about putting on layers we followed them out of town on the frozen sound following the shoreline for about 6 miles.  We then took a trail across the sound following the willow branch trail markers for another 12 miles until coming to the north shore and a camp there. Aucha went on to the mountains to help cut firewood and we loaded our sled with trash then headed back to town.  It was a cold but beautiful ride and hopefully a taste of fun to come.
