Thanksgiving in Anchorage 2004

Patty and I went to Anchorage for two weeks lasting through Thanksgiving.  We wanted to get the house decked out for Thanksgiving and the holiday season as we would not be back in Anchorage until February.  We worked hard to finish the table we bought in New Orleans over three years ago and hauled up the Alcan highway still in it's original box.  We did some painting and then went through the boxes we carefully packed and brought up to Alaska along with the table. We dug out our old familiar Christmas decorations each with it's own memories attached and hung them in their new home.  Patty then lovingly unpacked her china that made the rough trip without any broken pieces and set a beautiful table ready for the holiday feast.  At the table for Thanksgiving along with Patty and I were Christy and her significant other Mike, Cathy and her fiancé Gary along with Gary's mother Ester and his sister Marian.  It was like a dream come true.

We did take a day off during all the work to take a ride up to Hatchers Pass which is a ski and snowmachine area about a 45 minute drive north from the house.  Christy got her first snowboarding lessons and learned how to fall painfully in the correct manner.  Patty and I just watched and took in the views.

I am ashamed to say we almost did literally what I said in my last email and "shopped till we dropped".  In between all the work, we did a lot of shopping; so much shopping that we shipped over 600 pounds back via Alaska Air Cargo with most of it being household goods and groceries (and one ice auger for spring fishing).  We were glad to come home even though the landing in Kotzebue in complete darkness and blowing snow was a bit interesting to say the least.  Gary did use our snowmachine and sled to get all or our packages to the apartment which was greatly appreciated.  The poor fellow then had to haul his and Cathy's purchases which amounted to over 800 pounds to their place.  He got a workout and I am grateful for his help.

She is warm in her parky though even with the sour look on her face. (Note the boxes and ice chests-Alaska suitcases!)

It's good to be home!
