Trip to Normandy France

We used the vehicle that belonged to the owner of the apartment and drove out to Normandy France for two days.  We spent the night in Bayeaux and toured the beaches the next day.  While staying in Bayeaux we visited the cathedral there that was centuries old but had stained glass windows commemorating the soldiers who liberated the town in WWII.  There was even a plaque in honor of those who fell in WWI.  We had an excellent French meal there and even got to shop in an open market that was going on.

It was one of the highlights of the trip.

The next morning we drove out to Omaha Beach where the allies landed on D-day taking the highest casualties that day.  We drove through a number of small villages, toured the American Cemetery overlooking the beaches, and also toured Point Du Hoc were American Rangers stormed the cliffs and held out for three days before being relieved. A number of American and German dead remain undiscovered at Point Du Hoc.

It was a solemn and moving experience, especially since it was raining the whole time we were touring the cemetery.
