January 2006

New Years Eve we met at the fire hall around 9pm. There were plenty of volunteers to run the ambulance and to set up the over 1300 pounds of fireworks. So, Patty and I first headed out to watch the snowmachine races that started at 9:30pm.  It was 10 below zero so we watched one heat and the start of another before heading home to warm up a bit.  We headed back out just before midnight driving our 4 wheelers right out onto the now frozen Kotzebue sound to watch the fireworks. The last two New Years the weather was so bad the fireworks were postponed for a few days but for the first time since moving here, they were done on New Years Eve.

They went off without a hitch and were as spectacular as any I remember.

January continues bringing with it increased daylight, colder temps, and our 30th wedding anniversary!

To celebrate our anniversary Old Man Winter surprised us with the lowest temps we have so far experienced.  Neither machine would start so we both had to walk to work. I had to walk to the store to get Patty's flowers and then figure out how to get them home in the 33 below zero weather.

The weather channel stated it had gotten down to 36 below that day.

This month has brought the lowest temps we have yet to experience with temps staying in the minus 30's and even a couple of days where it was in the minus 40's! This does not stop much though as like in any town, the routine goes on.

Just a few more.
