Once again, Independence Day is a big celebration in the Arctic. It starts with a big parade. After the parade there is a flag raising and the National Anthem followed by a fair with booths of games, food, and displays. All day there are Eskimo competitions, foot races, tug of wars, dancing, and beauty pageants. It is as big a party as it gets in the Arctic.
Patty and I participated in the parade driving Attack 2-a small hose truck-for the Fire Department. We spent the rest of the day bar-b-queuing to raise money for the Fire Department and did not get to see much. We did have a good time though.
