February 2008

The blowing snows have finally abated (for now) and the sun has come out. There is a lot of snow out there though and the town is trying to open all the roads and haul out the excess.

On February first, there was a moose by our apartment that was chased out of town by the police and volunteers. There were caribou on the ice in front of town this week and they are supposed to be close behind town right now. One theory is there have been plenty of wolves sighted out there and the feeling is they are being driven closer to town where the wolves will not go.

In mid February Patty and I traveled down to Anchorage for a week. I had three days of meetings early in the week and she had a recruiting function on Friday and Saturday. We spent some time shopping in between work responsibilities as well as house shopping for a tax break and for one day when we do decide to leave Kotzebue. We dined out most nights but we all gathered at Christy and Mike's place for a home cooked meal one night. They have been getting a lot of snow as well.

The snows continue in February and it is really piling up out there.
