Hey,

In answer to your questions, yes we did finally break down and yesterday we each bought a set of YAK-Tracks, the rubber shoe bands with wire running around them for the ice.  Cathy was smart and bought hers last year.  She tried to talk us into them then but we had already seen at least one person who had gotten them tangled in the wire grate stairs that are used here and busted up her knee when she fell.  Oh well, you gotta wonder what is worst.

As for the northern lights, unfortunately it has been cloudy and rainy up here so we have not been able to see them the last few nights.  The Anchorage paper was showing some pictures of them in their area and they were really bright and colorful.  Check out their web site @ www.adn.com , they have some great pictures.  I only hope that Christy got to see some of them.  They say this may go on for a few days, so we are hoping the clouds will go away soon, even though the forecast is for more rain and warmer weather.  Because of the rain a lot of the snow has melted and the ice on the water has taken on a black cast where it is getting thin.  Every night the slush refreezes into a nice slick sheet of ice on the roads.  If it gets to bad maybe I'll just crank us the snow machines and act like the locals.
